Padel lessons: what they involve and what they cost

How padel lessons work in Australia: free and low-cost intro classes, clinics, academies and private coaching, with real prices from clubs in each capital.

Short answer: Most Australian padel clubs run intro classes for beginners, priced from free to about $40 per person for an hour. Group clinics and lessons are usually $35 to $55 per person, multi-week academy courses are available at some clubs, and private lessons range from about $45 to $160 an hour depending on the club and coach. Prices checked on venue booking pages in November 2026.

You can learn padel without lessons, but one or two classes early on will save you weeks of bad habits, especially with the serve, the back glass and positioning. Lessons are also the easiest way to meet other beginners.

What kinds of padel lessons are there?

Intro to padel classes

A one-off session for complete beginners. A coach explains the rules, the grip and the basic shots, then gets you rallying and playing points. Rackets are usually provided or cheap to hire. Examples from venue pages:

VenueLengthPrice per person
Ace Padel Clubs, Sunshine CoastNot statedFree
Padel Brisbane, The GapNot stated$5
Play Nation, Sydney60 min$20
Game4Padel Richmond, MelbourneNot stated$25
Padel 360 Cockburn, Perth60 min$25

Group clinics and classes

Small groups working on one skill or level, often weekly. Examples:

  • Nordic Padel, Melbourne: group lesson for up to four players, 60 minutes, $37.50 each.
  • Padel Gold Coast: group lesson $40 ($30 for members).
  • Padel Brisbane, The Gap: adult coaching clinic for up to 12 players, $45 ($40 for members).
  • Racquet Club venues (Sydney, Canberra, Gold Coast): clinics at $50 per person, including intro, beginner, intermediate and ladies clinics.
  • Sidewall Social, Sydney: group coaching, one hour, $55 per person.
  • Indoor Padel Australia Alexandria: weekly drills, 60 minutes, $55 per person.

Academy courses

A fixed block of classes with the same group, building skills week to week:

  • Game4Padel in Melbourne runs academy classes in six-week blocks, with four players per coach.
  • Recess Padel Club lists a four-class academy course at $180.
  • Canberra Racquet Club lists a padel course at $200.

Private and semi-private lessons

One-on-one or small-group lessons with a coach. Prices from venue pages:

VenuePrice
iPadel Melbourne$45
Padel Brisbane, The Gap$60 to $100, for 1 to 4 players
Nordic Padel, Melbourne$100 for 60 minutes
Indoor Padel Australia Alexandria$125 to $160 for 60 minutes, depending on the coach
Recess Padel Club$700 for four private lessons, per player, non-members

Splitting a private lesson with a friend or two is a common way to get coaching at a lower cost per person.

Are padel coaches qualified in Australia?

Padel Australia said in December 2025 that more than 60 coaches had qualified through the RSPA Padel Certification, which it described as Australia's first internationally recognised padel coaching course. Ask your club about its coaches' qualifications and experience. I do not rate or recommend individual coaches.

Are there padel lessons for kids?

Yes, at several clubs:

  • Play Nation in Sydney runs an after-school kids program, listed at $15 for 45 minutes.
  • Padel Brisbane at The Gap runs a Junior Padel Club for ages 7 to 10 and 11 to 14, listed at $30 ($25 for members).
  • Padel Perth Reabold runs a school sports program and after-school coaching.
  • Tribe in Melbourne lists junior coaching.

Where can I get padel lessons in my city?

People search for padel lessons in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane most often. Each of my city pages lists the coaching each venue offers:

How many lessons do I need?

There is no set number. A common path is one intro class, then a few group clinics while you play socials, then private lessons if you want to fix something specific, like the overhead. My beginner's guide covers what to practise between lessons.

What should I bring to a lesson?

  • Sports shoes with good grip. See padel shoes.
  • Water and a towel.
  • A racket, if you have one. If not, check whether the class includes racket hire.
  • For outdoor courts, a cap and sunscreen.

Then read what to expect at your first session.
