Padel in Newcastle, NSW

Is there padel in Newcastle NSW? Not yet. The nearest open venue on the Central Coast, the Gateshead and Beresfield projects, and how to play meanwhile.

Short answer: As of November 2026 I could not find an open padel venue in Newcastle or the Hunter, and Padel Australia's Find a Court page lists none. The nearest open club I found is La Palma Padel Club at Tuggerah on the Central Coast. Two Newcastle projects are in planning: a seven-court indoor centre proposed for Gateshead by Tribe, and four courts in a $1.6 million plan at Beresfield Golf Club.

That is not the answer most people searching "padel Newcastle" want, but it is the accurate one. Plenty of search results for Newcastle padel are actually for Newcastle upon Tyne in England or Newcastle in South Africa, so be careful which booking page you open.

Is there padel in Newcastle NSW?

Not that I could confirm in November 2026. I checked Padel Australia's venue finder, booking apps and local news. Two Playtomic club pages with "Newcastle" in their details turned out to be in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, with prices in rand. They are not in NSW.

The Newcastle Herald reported in July 2026 that there were 43 padel courts in New South Wales, mostly in Sydney, and did not name any existing venue in Newcastle.

Its Playtomic page listed beginner and intermediate public classes and Wednesday and Friday socials at $35 per person, and a membership at $150 a month.

If you are heading further south, Sydney has 14 venues I could confirm, including several in the north-west and on the Northern Beaches.

What padel courts are planned for Newcastle?

Tribe Padel & Wellness, Gateshead

The Newcastle Herald reported on 7 July 2026 that a development application had been lodged with Lake Macquarie City Council for a seven-court indoor padel centre in an industrial warehouse at 49 Oakdale Road, Gateshead, with a members' cafe and sauna. The article described it as one of Australia's largest padel centres. Tribe already runs clubs in North Ryde and Melbourne, and its website lists Newcastle as "coming soon". No approval had been reported when I checked.

Beresfield Golf Club

On 10 July 2026 the Newcastle Herald reported a $1.6 million plan lodged with City of Newcastle for a 16-bay driving range and four padel courts at Beresfield Golf Club. The padel courts are in stage 3 of the plan, with proposed hours of 9am to 10pm daily. It had not been approved at the time of the report.

When will Newcastle get padel courts?

There is no confirmed date. Both projects needed council approval at the time of reporting, and the padel courts at Beresfield are a later stage of a larger plan. Even after approval, building a court takes time. If you want to follow progress, the Lake Macquarie and City of Newcastle development application trackers are the best place to look.

Why are padel clubs being proposed in Newcastle?

Padel has grown quickly across Australia. A Padel Australia manager told The Weekend Edition in August 2026 that the country had gone from nine venues to more than 30, and that the sport was on track to pass 200 courts by the end of 2026. Operators like Tribe are expanding from Sydney and Melbourne into the next tier of cities, and golf clubs are adding padel to their facilities. How can I play padel in Newcastle in the meantime?

  1. Make a day of it on the Central Coast. La Palma at Tuggerah runs public classes and socials, so you do not need three friends to go.
  2. Combine it with a Sydney trip. Many Sydney clubs run intro classes and open matches you can join through Playtomic.
  3. Learn the rules first. My padel rules and beginner's guide will mean your first session is spent playing rather than working out the serve.
  4. Try pickleball locally. It is not the same game, but if you want a social racket sport now, see padel vs pickleball.

Can I build my own padel court in Newcastle?

Some people with space ask this. Australian court builders publish starting prices of roughly $60,000 to $85,000 per court before groundworks, and Padel Australia advises talking to your local council early about land use approval and permits. See how much a padel court costs to build.

I will update this page when a Newcastle venue opens. If you know of one, let me know.
